Will Flitz remove the Black T, BT2, etc.. coating if used? I usually Flitz my satin knives with a shop towel. Not abrasive at all. Using the same format- Flitz on shop towel on- lets say an Emerson La Griffe, will it remove the coating? Just wondering before I do damage.

I think it will. When I polished the pivot area on my Black-T Carny, I sanded to a high grit, then flitzed it. I noticed the flitz was removing some of the black that I hadn't sanded over. If you're rubbing down with flitz for protection, maybe you should just use tuff-cloth.

Most likely I'll have to buy some Tough Cloths. But for right now, I guess I'll have to give it a good coat of oil.

I've used Flitz on the Emerson Commander with BT2 and the Benchmade 710 with BT2- I've had no problems with the coating coming off after repeated use of Flitz. The coating seems to stay on there very well.

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the foolish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brothers keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay me vengeance upon you." I don't think you're going to hand polish a good blade coating off in this life time.

Besides, Flitz isn't a very good blade protector, it's more for polishing, and it does a VERY good job at that. Also, theirs really no point in using tuff-cloth on a blade coating, IMO. That's why it's coated in the first place.

Which brings up another question. What do you use on the Black coating? I've just been cleaning mine with water and carefully wiping it off. Sometimes a little Tuff Glide gets on it when I put it on the pivot area.

Does anyone recommend using anything on the coating?

I plan on using my La Griffe as a fishing neck knife. I mainly surf fish and there is a 99.999% chance that I'll be splashed with good ol' saltwater. I know the coating is there for a reason, but how does continuous contact with a solvent like seawater affect the blade?
