How well does Black Teflon hold up? I ordered a Benchmark 705BT and 705 to check them both out before I decide which one to keep. I like the look of the BT but not if it will look terrible after use. Please let me know how it well it wears if you know.

Welcome to the forums Jeb.

In my experience teflon coatings scratch fairly easily and look really bad after some use.

However, the finish is supposed to bond to the steel making it rust resistant even after the coating is scratched.

It should still work after it is scratched but it will look like hell after a little while.

It will look pretty bad after a while. It is no big deal to me though, when the coating is scratched up real bad, I'll just take it all off and give it a new finish. Either by hand sanding or homemade satin finish on a Scotch-Brite pad and some jeweller's rouge.

Hello All,,, As for "finishes" why are they used at all? Is a satin finish that expensive? "High polish" or "mirrored" I realize can get very pricey. I own, BB, Stonewashed, Black Ti, and now I hear that my favorite production company is going to start using Teflon!! Are all of these for appearances? Or, are we getting a stronger knife because (in theory) these finishes are stronger than the steel that they are placed on...Thanks Larry C.

The black blades are nice to look at, but if you use them they start to look very bad. I would go with the satin blade, unless your on a covert mission and don't want the glare.
