Haven't posted a pic in a while so here is one thats on the bench ready to be finished. Newest version, lighter, sharper and with a new grind that keeps the full blade thickness all the way to the tip. Without sacrificing penetration.

More later!:D

This one below is the Follow up to the original Black Velvet blade I did in S30V.
This is the one and only one I will make this way. I now have a healthy respect for
those who venture into this style guard and handle. I'm sticking with my old favorite
style from now on.
Any way this is a follow up piece to one that is currently on the hip of one of our
Special Forces group in the Middle East. I will be making one more in this style blade
before I decide which one is a keeper design. Tang is similiar to the one shown above as Black Velvet Next Generation.
Blade is Flat ground and edge quenched 1/4" 5160 that has been Bead blasted and
Industrial Hardchromed for protection (Same hardchrome as used on engine
Crankshafts). Pinned thru the tang with a 1/4" Micarta pin. Handle is a solid block of
Micarta and guard is the same material.
Suprising light feel on this for such a solid blade, weighing in at 11oz W/O the
sheath.
Blade length is 6 3/4" tip to front of guard 11 1/2" OAL

They look really Cool Bob...
Now get to making more of them and quit experimenting:p :D
No actually they are looking really great, keep it up.

Robert, that's a great looking blade. Will you mortise the handle for that tang? Looks like it swells after the halfway point... Is the guard and handle a single piece on the second knife? Great stuff, you are creating a nice niche for yourself here! Along with those incredible bowies...

Guys thanks for the kind words;)
Dave, The tang will wind up getting trimed so it is a taper to the end. End will still be pretty stout.
I was going to Mortise some slabs but I am not equipped to do so
IE: *I could use a good roughing End Mill* Hint Hint:D
Especially since I plan on switching to G10 or G11.
Since these are edge quenched the tang is easy to drill for a pin. Whats nice is I found a LOCAL plastics supplier who carries or can get everything I need.

NOW***If I could only afford a Plasma cutter, KMG1 grinder, Chop saw, horizontal grinder, surfacing set up and $170 for new ceramic beads for my Bead blaster I would be in good shape.
Oh Yeah a bigger shop might help!
Just ask OL Bruce Evans...
