I understand that Randall does not offer a black waxed sheath. Does anybody know why? Is there something with the black dye that prevents the leather from absorbing the wax?

Cheers

If you dye the leather black and then wax it the wax will prevent you from applying a sealer to the leather. The black dye will rub off all over your clothing.
The leather that we now use on black sheaths is a drum dyed leather that comes to us from the supplier already completely dyed [ all the way through not just on the surface] and is well sealed up. So if we try to wax this leather the wax won't penetrate into the leather. The black leather that we use is fairly waterproof as it is although not as waterproof as the waxing does with natural leathers. There is simpley no way that we have found to offer a hot waxing on black leather that will work w/o problems. Sorry. Greg
