Blackening silver wire pocket clips

Just wondering what the most durable yet DIY solution might be to blacken a silver spyderco wire clip. I'm guessing paint wouldn't last very long.

I love the blackened clips on my Sage 1 & Chaparral, nearly invisible in the pocket. I'm looking to make my DF2 (s) and Mantra the same for a more discrete carry.

Clean the clip well with alcohol, and then try a drop or two of gun-blueing.
Don't know; just a guess.

I acid dip them to dull them. It blends in nice with whatever color my pants/shorts are.

I've been heating my spydie shiny clips(several) and the wire clip on my Manix 2 lw 110v for a couple of years in a gas flame. I don't like the shiny clips

that Spyderco uses now. I'm a tea drinker. I put part of the clip directly in the gas flame on our gas stove when the water is heating. I move the clip around in the flame until

it's all the same brownish color. Sometimes it's a darker brown. The wire clip came out dark brown too.

I'm with you on not liking the silver wire clips, and I don't care for the black either.
I bought and put back a few of the tempered wire clips when they were still available, but am down to one spare now.

Some good ideas above, or you may try putting up a post in the wanted to buy section. Someone may have an extra tempered clip to sell.

Really wish they hadn't stopped tempering the wire clips.

What knives or what time frame are tempered and not tempered? I thought they all were. My favorite clip and the finish on the Slysz Bowie is cool too. I've never had an issue with them, just wish they were all shorties personally.

Thanks for all the comments. So I did the heat on the stove flame and cool in water method on a clip. I'm happy with the dulling. The pic's don't quite show how much more subtle the colour now is. It's almost a match to the titanium on my Mantra. Pic's for reference are a factory black Sage 1 clip, stove dulled Mantra clip, and a factory silver Sage 3.
