blackhawk be-wharned

btw, im just glad some of the other web pages i have open in other tabs didnt accidentally get posted :o

Funny you mention you had to get your Be-Wharned from Ebay.....I had to get my CQD Mark 1 Type E from an Ebay seller......I will say this.....despite my skepticism for the new Blackhawk Blades being made in Taiwan, my CQD Mark 1 Type E is definitely amazing.....sitting it next to my MOD CQD Mark 1, its the EXACT same thing....same great lock-up, same great features....just lighter because of the polymer handle and of course the AUS8A blade, but I carry my knives for self defense to complement my Glock 19C, and honestly, AUS8A will slice/pierce/stab just as good as S30V or 154CM in a situation like that...not to mention I can beat the hell outta my Type E and not feel guilty about it.....only paid $69 shipped priority for it brand new. :D

Basically it looks similar to a Spyderco Yojimbo & should make a great replacement for it, especially since it's a lot more affordable. I'm not saying or complaining that it's a copy, I'm just saying it's a similar design & I like it.

For the use/needs of this knife, AUS 8 should be sufficient.

the be-wharned and the yojimbo were both designed by the same guy i think, michael janich, who is an edged weapons expert.

Yes, I know. Michael Janich had gotten together with Snody at some point in time & that's why the BM 425 Gravitator is so similar. I'm just saying that while the Be-Wharned isn't a direct copy, it is similar to the Yojimbo, even though they have the same designer.

It really looks like it'll be a good selling knife. I do have a question for those that have it. Are the scales on the Be-Wharned G-10 or some type of polymere (Zytel?)? I think that I've read that they're zytel on one site & G-10 on an other.

the handle is g10. the g10 could have been nicer, its a bit rough, but still a good knife.

looks good, but I think the gravitator is still the best snody production folder available at the moment. Might have to get one used though. It doesn't carry very well (neither does this new knife), as opposed to the Yojimbo which carries pretty well. But it feels great in the hand and looks good when open...and like nothing else.

lol my bad, i totally entered the wrong link ..... yes that is the right video

i hope you liked the judo video at least.

what do you think of the be-wharned? i like it a lot.

I'm very satisfied with the Be-Wharned. Mike sent it to me along with one of 24 trainers he had made. The Be-Wharned is the third knife designed by Michael Janich that I have EDC'd. My favorite was the Yojimbo and this knife shares many similar features. The handle is a bit rough but I like the texture and feel it aids in a solid purchase of the knife and when manipulating it. The Be-Wharned has a wicked sharp blade with a slight upward angle that when seated in your hand lines the cutting edge up quite nicely with the natural angle of the hand (I do not know if this was intentional or simply by accident).

There are two things I'd modify on the be-Wharned if I could. The finger choil is a bit shallow for my taste. I iked the deep recess of the Yojimbo and had hoped this would be similar. Secondly, I would like to see some texture on the back of the blade for the thumb. Many of the new Spyderco knives have a textured thumb ramp compared to the older modles that lacked this feature.

The trainer is an exact replica of the live blade Be-Wharned that appears to have originally been a blank Be-Wharned that (instead of being sharpened) was dulled to allow for contact training in Janich's MBC program. I was fortunte to have received one of these and am thrilled to have a dedicated trainer for this design.

Thought I'd bump this up since it rates very high in my "must buy" list. Wharnies are very functional cutters, especially for utility tasks.

To the owners, how's the lock-up? Pics very appreciated!

i bought one. the lockup is fine. its well made and sturdy. my only complaint is that the g10 is a bit rough, i think they could have done a better job with it.
