I picked up a Tatang yesterday at my local outfitters shop and have to say that I am very impressed with this knife so far. This is my first experience with Blackhawk Blades, and though I wish they'd kept the MOD name I have to say they are still turning out a decent product. The knife itself came hair shaving sharp out of the box, both the upper swedge and the main blade. Both portions of the blade could cut free hanging paper and peel/slice an apple. I also used the knife to chop through a small tree limb. It took just 5 strokes to get through the roughly 3/4 inch diameter oak branch. Both sections of the blade were used to attempt to make the severed branch into fuzz sticks and both the swedge and main blade performed equally well, though due to the edge geometry it was a little less tiring using the main blade. The knife is definitely blade heavy and has a very large finger choil to allow one to choke up on it for heavy chopping tasks. The rubber handle is very grippy. On the negative side the knife is produced overseas in Taiwan, but at least the blade is clearly labeled in that regard. The sheath too, could use some retooling in my opinion. It's the standard canvas sheath, but it has a very lightweight nylon belt loop, which feels like it will fail e.g rip off, under extreme conditions. I've seen it happen before with machete sheaths. For the price, however, (I paid $75 dollars) I think this is a quality bush knife.
