Anyone have any experience with the Blackhawk Crucible II folder?

Interesting shape and size. Kinda looks like a Cold Steel model, but a bit pricier, with similar grippy scales and painted steel.

Would definitely check it out in person, Blackhawk folders I have handled were not made well. I like the Spyderco Native blade, edge in line with knuckles, and handle design though.

My CS Mini Recon is pretty similar and has been a good knife. Trade off of Tri-Ad lock (probably edge retention and build quality also) for a smidge more edge.

Many thanks -- I have the Mini Recon.

I own a Crucible II. And here are my 2 cents worth.

1. Out of the box sharpness was good.
The broad blade cuts through flex-ties, cardboard and bread fairly well.
Jimping on thumb ramp was okay for some added hold.

2. G10 finishing was rough and grippy it feels rougher than the Al Mars I owned or the Spydies I have handled.
Liner locks up to 50% of blade tang.
Flush liner lock means a slower closing time but harder to disengage by accident I suppose.

3. Pocket clip screws are not very tight in the tip-down position which means the pocket clip moves sideways when I move it slightly with my fingers. Nothing that a few drops of Loctite or super glue cannot fix.

P.S. The handle design of the Crucible II reminds me of the Spyderco SuperLeaf, can anyone else see the similarities?

I had one for a brief time, it was outstanding. Felt like an (even more) beefed up cold steel folder. Similar to the older gens with the steel liners.

Very good work knife, one that won't let you down. Great F&F, solid lockup, and some of the best scales and grips I've experienced. For the price, their really great.

Regarding build quality, I haven't seen a Blackhawk that didn't feel solid (I can't speak for the cheapies however)

I had one for a while. I sold the folder version and kept the fixed version. The folder was rough in my hand and I never got used to opening it. The edge was sharp out of the box though... no complaints there. However, I am very pleased with the fixed blade version.
