Hey, i'm new here on bladeforums.com and was wondering if anyone could give me an opinion on a couple of knives. I'm looking for a tactical folder for self defense. I'm looking at the Blackhawk! Crucible II which was designed by Kelly McCann, and the Crkt M16 13sfg. Just wondering which knife you guys would recommend or if you have a better suggestion. Some of the things that i am looking for: g10 handles, tip up carry, and a blade length between 3.5 and 4 inches. Preferably with a flipper opening and a plain edge. Thanks for the help!

If you're looking at knives like the ones you mentioned, might as well get the big brother of the CRKT, the M21-14SFG. Still under 4 inches. Feels great and you can wave it.

Hello and welcome!

Crucible II without a doubt. Just do a search on them.

One more thing: SELF-DEFENSE is not about the knife (especially a folder) you carry. Its about one's attitude and awareness. Something to think about from an SD instructor himself.

Hello and Welcome to the forums. Just one question for you: What kind of budget do you have?

thanks for the tip. I want to spend less than $100, preferably around $50-$60, but it depends on the knife.

For self defense...
Nothing better and faster than a waved folder....
-Emerson CQC-8
-Spyderco Endura Wave

thanks agian, and i am interested in spyderco endura 4 wave as mentioned above... How does the hole compare to studs? And i've always preferred linerlocks to lockbacks for one handed closing, what do you guys think?

well, i was able to go to smoky mountain knife works and handle all of the knives. I ended up walking out with a spiderco endura 4 wave. I immediately fell in love with this knife. I really liked the crucible as well, but it was just a bit too fat for my tastes. I LOVE the handle on that knife though, and will probably end up getting that knife sooner or later. The CRKT m16 however i didn't like at all. I normally like CRKT products, but I didn't really like anything about this knife at all except that the dual flippers make for an excellent handgaurd. Thanks again for the help!

Heh, fatty! Yeah, the Crucible has been described as "short but stout".

An excellent choice nonetheless. E4 waved is  too!
