Handled a Kalista by Blackhawk Industries and really liked it A lot. Are they for sale yet? If so will they only be through Blackhawk Industries?

To me the grip seems more versatile. Where did you have a chance to handle one?

How would you compare it to the Ronin?

Thanks.

Saw it at the last Blade show. Michael Janich was at the Blackhawk Industries booth showing the new knife line.

As for comparing it to the Ronin - I have never been a big fan of the Ronin. The Ronin is a good knife it was just not right for me.

The Kalista, to me, looks like a perfect everyday fixed SD/Utility EDC. The handle is comfortable in different grip styles. Blade design is versatile. Sheath is set up for different carry options and seemed to lock the knife securely. Overall fit & finish on the ones I handled were good.

Janich said he designed the Kalista for both "regular" grips and reverse-edge grips. I'm looking forward to seeing how it handles in both.

The sheath I handled was a prototype. Seemed to be the typical kydex sheath with a tek-loc fastener. Did not really play with the sheath much as I always figure if I do not like it I can get a aftermarket one made I will like.

As stated, the knife itself felt good in numerous grip styles. Seemed a well thought out design.

Thank you all for your interest in the Kalista. I am very happy to say that is is now in stock and shipping. Please follow this link to go directly to the Blackhawk page with full details:

I designed the Kalista with the intent of providing a knife that works with ALL knife grips -- including reverse-edge grips -- right out of the box. I had the chance to discuss it with Southnarc in detail at last year's Blade Show and he was very pleased with the design and its function with his approach to knife tactics.

The sheath system for the Kalista, and the soon-to-be-released Crucible FX fixed-blade (designed by Kelly McCann) is called the Total Concealed Carry Solution (TCCS). Although it appears somewhat wide for the size of the Kalista, the reason for that is to allow it to interface with the mounting hardware that comes complete with the knife. The sheath system includes the sheath itself (one-piece molded hytrel), an adapter plate, a paddle attachment, an adjustable belt attachment (both from the Blackhawk CQC holster line), an IWB loop with snap, a neck chain, all the screws and washers necessary to assemble the various configurations, and detailed, step-by-step instructions.

The TCCS system is advertised to support more than 70 different carry positions, but depending upon how detailed you want to get in your categorization, that number can easily reach 200+. The wider sheath and adapter plate allow it to interface with the paddle attachment and belt loop attachment, allowing 360-degree adjustment of the angle in edge-forward and edge-back orientations anywhere on the waistband or belt. The system also supports tuckable IWB for extreme concealment and literally provides all the hardware you need to experiment and find the carry (or carries) that work best for you.

I'm very excited about this knife and sheath system and look forward to getting feedback from end users.

Thanks again for your interest.

Stay safe,
