The tip of the Kalista appears so thin. Has anyone had any issues with breaking the tip. I've been a bit afraid of plunging it into anything. Otherwise, it is a heck of a knife, easy to handle and deploy. One of my favorites. Appreciate your feedback.

I don't know the quality of their fixed blades, but their folders feel like junk compared to any Spyderco or Benchmade I've had or used. My $40 Kershaw seems much higher quality than the Be-Wharned and BHB30 I messed around with last week.

I probably wouldn't trust one of their fixed blades or folders for anything but little stuff around the house.

You're right and wrong. Blackhawk blades used to ALL be made either in the USA or Seki City. Great Great quality. The Crucible and the kalista used Nice hard ATS34. then changed to VG10. The "be wharned" and the new MK 1 are cheap taiwan knives made of AUS Steels. A LOT of the new Blackhawks have 2 versions. The Regular "High end" ones and the same but made in taiwan version.
If Your Kalista is VG10 or ATS34 it's probably made in Seki and is a tough ass knife for it's size( Like Mine) It's a slightly Very slightly, curved wharcliff. it cuts exactly like a spyderco Yojimbo. ( Janich loves Wharncliffs for SD I suppose, They slice deep). I wouldn't go doing tough prying with it. but it's a good knife. Slash and stab away.

I have the original "Seki City" version. Excellent quality. I'm sure the tip is tougher than I'm thinking, but like your reasoning... stay away fromm prying. Thanks for the reply. -mw

Forgot, The OP was Specifically about the Tip. I Got one when it first came out for aboyt 120. at a gun show a few month ago I got a Brand new one,( Same Steel) For $75. So I turned my "old One" Into a throwing knife. I Throw a lot and enter competitions for knife and hawk.

My Set up is 7x4ft evenly cut 8 inch of 4x4 ends. (I'll post a pic in the throwing section).

Anyway, I chuck that thing (It's Perfectly balanced for throwing). Sometimes it doesn't hit strait.( Stresses tip) and I'm Lazy and don't pull it out strait( Really stresses tip) and it hasn't bent or broke yet. I don't think it ever will. Good Steel and heat treat.

Besides that, I'd recommend the Kalista to anyone who wants a Smaller EDC Fixed blade for Defense and Chores. It's Comes with the carry System so you can't finds enough different ways to carry it. And the Paddle is compatible with Blackhawk Holster/gun gear too.
