Blackhawk Predator vs. Camelbak vs ?

Anyone care to offer their experiences with these various watercarrier/small packs?

I'm looking for something daypack size, to keep a basic, light woodsy survival kit in. You know.. firestarters, compass, poncho/groundcloth, etc etc. I don't want a fullsize pack, though I'd much prefer the MOLLE strips or similar as on the blackhawk model to add more later should I feel the need.

Colorwise, I'd prefer flat OD or "coyote" -- I want subdued, but not camo and preferably not black.

Compatibility with some kind of inline waterfilter is a major plus.

Finally, I'd like an adaptive-type suspension system, that has the shoulder straps hooked together over a bar such that it moves with your shoulders easily.

Anyone know what model of what maker I'm looking for?

Thanks. :)

I'd recommend Camelbak. It is recommended. But the Blackhgawk seems to be cheaper option. btw, I am also finding a waterbag. I am not sure why you wanted OD or Coyote? I would prefer black, cause it's less prone to dirt.

Thanks!

That's definately the direction I was leaning. So far as color.. just personal preference. I like woods colors that are.. well.. woods colored. Subdued, but not army-lookin' or ninja-cop lookin'. Maybe mom just read too many Robin Hood stories to me as a girl. :)

And wouldn't ya know it.. but I just emailed Camelbak, and they say a "foliage green" HAWG is in the works, and Eagle Industries should have it shortly.

Yay! :D

Foilage green? Any pics? I know that in UK, you can buy a CamelBak ThermoBak 3L in the DPM colour!

Hey, btw, did you know that the blackhawk waterbags are virtually undestructable! They have a video in their website that shows their waterbag filled with water go under a car and thrown from the roof of a three story building without the bag bursting or leaking any water!

They both are good brands. I have the Camelbak Hawg and like it a lot and it is my day pack. But I have a Blackhawk three day pack too and it is larger and very nice. You will be happy with either one.

I like maxpedition packs. I had a chance to check out camelbak and maxpedition. Maxpedition is twice the thickkness as the mule. I would check maxpedition out to. worth the money.

WEll, Not sure about maxpedition, BUt I go with either CamelBak or Blackhawk.

that maxpedition condor II or the other packs with hydration are awfully nice too, and well priced if you shop around.

i found a local to me dealer, but they're special spooky elite, and don't allow people on premises to see stock. they only sell via the intarnet - no returns. they lost a sale on that one. i usually want to see before i buy AND support local dealers. oh well.

I've owned a Camelback MULE for about the past 6 years. I used it "urban" mountain biking, hiking, and camping. It's a good size to just pick-up and go.

I punctured the old resevoir, once. I used a little duct tape as a patch which lasted until I replaced the reservoir. I like the newer version of the reservoir with the oversized screw-in top.
