Torn between these 2 knives as my next purchase:

The Blackhawk UK SPF is D-2 steel, which, when it comes to KNIVES, I know very little about other than it's pretty brittle, which means you can't use the knive for prying, hammering, or nearly as much as say like, 1095 or San Mai. Being that hard means it would probably keep a nasty edge for much longer though.

Really do like the OSS San Mai III, seems to be a more versatile knife, though admittedly I don't know a ton about that particular steel other than they use a vg-10 core.

Thoughts?

I don't have the San Mai III OSS but got the cheaper AUS8A version. Here is my 2 cents as a collector (+ imaginary blade fighter), UK-SFK 6in D2 blade, compact, 0.25in thick spine going almost to the tip (one of the strongest tip I've seen in daggers), very good balance, but suprisingly heavy and limited reach, G-10 handle scale could be a bit thin (and smooth) for big hand (not very secure for such a heavy blade) and sharp corners (not the most comfortable). OSS 8.25in blade, much better reach, lighter (hench much faster in hand), but tip could be a bit fragile, thick kraton handle plus subhilt, very secure and comfortable. Both have no problem going through soft (lightly-armored) targets like what they're designed to do as combat blades, but OSS has more of a utility function due to its wider belly and almost bowie like design (as a hunting knife, it can even drop a cape buffalo with 3 stabs into the lung, check Youtube). Price wise, almost similar but UK-SFK seems to be getting pricier and harder to find. Cold Steel San Mai Peacekeeper would be a better comparision to the UK-SFK, imho. More similar in size and design. If you are willing to splurge a bit, I would recommend going straight for the Tai Pan, as a dagger enthusiast, I've yet to handle a better production dagger. Hope it help, cheers!
