Does anyone have any current info on how well the 52100 Blackjack Knives is now using on some of their fixed blade knives holds an edge? Was looking at a small one online and if they hold an edge pretty well, it's not a bad price. I know this is one of the better steels, just wondering about the heat treat and temper that is being done on these knives Thanks for any info.

I imagine they are being made by the folks at Marbles. And there is nothing wrong with their heat-treat.

Of course, it isn't in a class with a Master Smith's work, but for production blades, Marbles knives perform very, very well in 52100. I bat Blackjack s will do the same.

I have a Blackjack Small and a Trailguide III, and the 52100 holds an edge very well indeed. I have used my Small extensively since I got it last week, and finally got tired of waiting for it to get dull so I could try my hand at sharpening the dual convex edge.

After a week of serious use, cutting lots of thick cardboard, pipe insulation, food stuffs, plastic, vinyl tubing, and misc. fibrous materials, the edge went from incredibly hair popping sharp to extremely sharp.

Finally, today, I got tired of waiting, and stropped the Small on a loaded strop, and easily brought the edge back to scary sharp again.

As for Marbles making the knives, I myself had thought that Ken Warner was making them, but now I am confused...hopefully somebody else knows for sure.

I do know that Blackjack knives are an incredible bargain, and the Small is just outstanding, especially at $88 delivered.

Thanks for the replies. I have ordered a small Blackjack and am looking forward to using the 52100.

According to their website, Knifeware, Inc. (the folks making the new Blackjack knives) "is unconnected with any other knife industry company and was incorporated in 1998 by Ken Warner."

Definitely some nice knives for the money. I really had to resist the temptation to buy a Blackjack small from Ken at the last Salem gun show, even though I'm wasn't looking for any fixed blade knives.

Interestingly enough, though, Ken also sells Marbles knives at the local gun shows.

Walt2,

Good choice on the Blackjack Small, it's an outstanding knife, and the sheath is a wonder.

I am wearing mine everywhere I go, and it's the first sheath knife I have been able to actually forget about wearing, because it's so comfortable and unobtrusive.
