Just how rare is a green handled BlackJack A/F and how does one determine the value of something that is cracked like this? Not only on this one but how mujch does damage take away from the value of a knife that may or may not be collectable in nature?

Since (I'd imagine) that the OD green handle is what would make your Blackjack Applegate/Fairbairn Fighter Dagger collectable (as well as the low s/n), that serious of a crack would make a huge difference in its' value. In a collectable knife, condition is VERY important. I have one, but it has the black handle, and a s/n in the 01400's.

Just a note, that the cracking is very common in the green handled versions. You may try to contact Tom Carey, who is a serious collector of BlackJack knives. He might be able to help.

Mel Purvis is a serious A/F collector, he may be able able to offer some insights as well.

You should be able to track them down using the name search feature here.

Generally, as Glockman stated condition is very important to price, and a big crack usually drops value quite a bit. But it might not be the case with this knife, because it is quite common in the pattern.

Here's Tom's page: blackJack.0catch.com . If all else fails, BlackJack has a page at Knifeforums.

There are some instances where damage, or "character" can actually increase the value.

If you cracked that handle over the skull of an enemy soldier or notorious outlaw, and had proof to back up the story, some collectors would love it. If it's an old knife, telltale signs of wear & use, patina, help convince collectors it's not a fake.
