What are some of the things to look for when bidding on the Blackjack Applegate Fairbairn knives?

Are there any tips that can be useful?

I'm all ears....

Awfully retro stuff you're asking about.
But, hey, I would have to say its a pretty cool knife pattern to own.
Blackjack! Blackjack! Yes, problem with the Blackjack A/F's has always been cracks developing on the lexan handles in later years. Sheath wasn't top material either. What's there to say? Other than its a keeper!
Dude! I would have thought you've seen this already?

From what I have heard, Blackjack knives are hit or miss. The fit and finish on these knives can range from outstanding to mediocre. However, they are the sharpest factory-made knives I have ever handled...assuming that they were provided with a convex edge. As for the Applegate-Fairbairn, I have never handled one but have heard that they fall somewhere on the mediocre end.

Curiosity yields evolution...satiety yields extinction.

you should also watch out for hardened glue that oozed out by the handle/guard area or by the hex nut in center of handle.

Almost all of them are cracked where the thong tubing passes thru the handle material.

Most of them were made from sub-zero quenched 440A....but about 1500 or so were made from A2 tool steel.....more desireable in my book....and the are marked A2 on the blade.

Sheathes were ill fitting and crappy.
