Hello folks,
I have just purchased a Blackjack Blackmoor dirk, and unfortunately found it not to my liking. So I've decided to have a little contest and divest myself of it. It has a few tiny scratches where I tried to touch up the edge, but otherwise is mint, with the box. Winner will be determined by 12:00 a.m. friday morning and I will try to ship Friday or Saturday. Since I really don't like the pick a number type threads and I've already used a literature theme once, let's try something else. Since I'm a military history nut, give me the name and country of origin of the only CRUISER submarine sunk in the Caribbean, and it's last military port of call.

Oops, forgot the pictures in my last post. Here you go. The last one is a little dark, but you can see the few tiny scratches on the back of the blade.

Thanks for the giveaway.:)

I just wasted an hour searching the net for info.
Do you have any clue how many "cruisers" were sunk in the caribean?:D

A LOT!
Maybe I'll take another shot at it later.
My search fu is weak tonight.

Very generous offer

I will guess

German submarine U-176 , last port was Lorient (France)

(although I think there were 4 subs sunk in the caribbean but this was by a cuban sub chaser and I think the rest were by aircraft.)

Shappa,
You missed an important clue, I said Cruiser submarine. Not just cruiser. I realize there were a lot of those sunk. That should narrow it down.

We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine.....

On 18 February 1942, Surcouf was lost with all hands. An official joint U.S. and Free French report stated that she left Bermuda on 12 February and was accidentally rammed and sunk by the American freighter Thompson Lykes off the north coast of Panama near the Panama canal. The report states that the accident was due to both vessels running at night with no lights because of the menace of German U-boats.

U853 was the last U boat sunk in WWII off of Rhode Island. Long story short caught on the bottom after an attack on a merchant seaman. Blimps even took part in the attack. keepem sharp

I can't seem to find any other "cruiser submarine" besides the Surcouf. Although I did find out that she was in Halifax on December the 20th 1942. Halifax is a military port, I am not sure if Bermuda is considered a true military port.

Just to be official I am going with the French cruiser submarine Surcouf with last military port being Halifax on January 11th 1942.

Ooooh, this is a good one! Even my dad didn't know. (He was on subs for 16 years.)

thx - cpr

Surcouf (N N 3) last military port of call was Halifax though she did free the island of St-Pierre.

The Black Pearl...Country of origin was England? (Actually, she was/is from MY hometown of Aberdeen, WA..."The Lady Washington")...Sunk in the Caribbean by a gigantiac octopus.:D.:D.

That would be the S.S. Minnow. Set out for a three hour tour, however the tiny ship was tossed. My historical facts are sketchy, but I believe it also had something to do with the Harlem Globe Trotters:D

The Blackmoor Dirk is a neat little sticker. I can't get mine sharp either, but it meant to be stabby...which it is.
