Just wondering who’s got one and if they like it. How do you like the convex edge? Steel?

I seem to remember someone including pictures of one in a hike thread, think it was pitdog but can’t remember:confused:

Thanks!

I got two, I love them. Convex are my favorite type of edge, the steel could prolly be better but hasn't given me any problems.

Thanks for the reply, you ever baton with them? Any idea on how much tang is under that handle? How is the handle by the way?

Thanks again:thumbup:

It is a full thickness, full length tang under the handle. They are beefy. I have beat up on mine quite a bit. It has one of the best feeling handles of any knife I have ever used.

I have an older Japanese model in AUS8 steel and a couple of the newer Chinese models in 10Cr17. They are both excellent. The new ones are only 20$ shipped from Smokey Mountain Knifeworks - the sheaths are awful but the knife is great. Buy yourself a Spec Ops sheath and you have a winner.

Where else are you going to get a convexed 3/16" think knife for 20$. That is just a smoking deal.

I like the one I recently got. It's the Chinese version, but very sharp, and very comfortable.

Well, I just ordered one for myself, so I’ll see how I like it. This will be my first convex blade so I’ll see how I like convex edges too.

i've also got one of the older ones and i love it. keep it on my max devil dog, goes everywhere .

Go get one! I received mine last week from Smoky Mt. It had a few very minute dings on the edge but they will strop out soon enough and I'm not goind to sweat it on a 20 bone blade.

The handle is very comfortable and feels very close to my Scrapper 6. In fact, it fits in the Scrapper 6 kydex sheath.

I'm going to order a couple more to keep in my vehicles.

those grunts are great knives.. i wish i had one...:o a buddy of mine, swears by those knives....

Mike...you'll like it. Great for those weekend trips to the coast and to the Pinnacles!

Take care Bro. hatchet-

Yeah but how about the new ones with the different steel and not the AUS 8?

Well as far as I know 8Cr13 is very similar to AUS8, and I would think 10Cr17 is better then 8Cr13 (higher numbers:confused:;)). So, I’d imagine its pretty decent steel. This conclusion however could be entirely wrong, so don’t hold me to it:D

The handle is the same handle as on my old Blackjack Marauder II, its real big which is nice when doing lots of work with it, if it was a bit smaller tho I would EDC it.

I just got my Grunt today. Feels nice and solid; sharp as can be to out of the box too. One thing though, the sheath sucks! I’ve been thinking about giving kydex a try for a while now and this knife needs one bad so I’ll have to order some and give it a try.

So far, overall, I’m pretty pleased. I’ll give a work out and report back later:thumbup:

I got the Chinese version Yesterday. I haven't given it a workout yet, but it's very comfortable. The handle is awesome.

As for the steel. Here are Mike Stewart's comments on it. (Mike, I hope you don't mind me posting this here. If you do, let me know.)

From KF-

I have not seen any of the knives made lately in China.

I do understand that they are very high Quality and a good value for the money.

I also have never used the Chinese Steels so I have no real input on how they work.

I do like AUS-8 and 440C so it is probably safe to say that the Chinese version would work the Same.

As to Quality==A Grunt is a blade and an injection molded handle.

I can't see how it can be screwed up.

if the Fit and Finish of knives like the Rough Rider Pocket Knives (Same maker) is any indication of the Fit & Finish of the Chinese--the Grunts should be Fine.

These are not Difficult knives to make.

From JD

Knifeware no longer owns Blackjack.

I have been told by the New Owners that If the Grunt is Continued it will be made in china.

10cr17 is supposed to be superior to AUS-8. It is rated more like AUS-10.
