A friend asked me to post this to get some ideas from the forum on the values of a couple of knives he has.

1. Blackjack 5" bladed hunting knife with leather handle.

2. EK commando double edge with wood handles.

both are in very nice condition, never really used but have no boxes anymore.

So what do you guys think they are worth?

...$100 give or take. BJK's are good user's, some of the best, but unless they are rare/mint w/boxes, it's really catch as catch can.

We had 20, we sold them all. (We inherited them, and used the money to buy Randall's)

BJK made soooo many knives, that 'rare' is subjective.

Quality on some was just fantastic, on others it was down right poor.

The blades can't be beat, just super sharp...but, they're a bitch to resharpen due to the rolled, or Moran, edge...so, resharpened BJK's aren't worth much at all.

Also, the high carbon steel, though factory sharp, dulls and rusts easily...lending itself to rust and/or resharpening.

Again, I think they are one of the best knives of its type ever made, and a great RMK clone...but, your friends are pretty common knives.

Tell him to use them and be happy...
