One of these days I am going to pick up a "classy" fixed blade to go with my beckers and other EBKs. What do you guts think of the Blackjack knives?

The two particular setups that have caught my eye are a stag handled Small, possibly with the optional IWB sheath, and the Model 5 sub-hilt with black micarta.

Frankly though, they all look pretty nice. Any personal favorites/stories/recommendations?

I love the Blackjack Small. It's a very useful 3-finger knife. I'd put it on my "top ten" list of knives I own. The Small is a great little fixed blade for short day hikes and working around the back yard. My only caveat is that the Small doesn't have quite as much tip as I'd prefer, but I'm one of those pointy tip kind of guys. I'd also grab the optional pocket sheath for the Small. This will add one of my favorite carry options, allowing the Small to be carried in your back pocket. Very inconspicuous, yet handy.

I should mention that I have no idea what the scale quality is on the Small you mention. I have one of the older wood handled 52-100 steel Smalls.

A month ago, I bought the 52-100 Small at a show. It's quickly become a favorite. The way the convex grind cuts and the ease of sharpening is just like Buzzbait has been telling everyone for some time now. No more sharpening stones to fool with!

I did a little reading up on these. The current Smalls in 1095 are made by Bark River Knife and Tool. This is Mike Stewart's company. He started Blackjack in the first place. You can also get a AUS-10 Small that's made in Japan. I think the stag handled ones are actually bone carved to look like stag.

I'm guessing the 52-100 ones were made by Marble's when Mike Stewart was president there 1997-2001. Some of this info is at the Blackjack forum in a thread on Blackjack history.

Also, if you want something pointier, look at the Blackjack Slick. Same size, same wallet sheath, more point.
