BlackJack Knives

To be honest they are very well made knives. A lot of people don't like AUS8, i do after handling these knives. The original black jack warrior is probably the most wicked tanto i have ever had. I mean come on, how many tantos do you know of that have a false edge on the back!? The black jack grunt is a great camp knife if that’s what your interested in. They have something for everybody who is into knives. From their blackmoore dirk, to their anaconda bowie. They are very well made knives. This is just my experience and point of view. Others may be different. I used to hate aus 8 before i had these, other aus8 knives dulled faster than most other knives that were a quarter of their price. These ones are worth the buy.

Hey Bl@ck...
I'll agree with Swordsman...

They are pretty well made..
As well the handles are some of the most comfortable "rubber" handled knives I've held...

I think they are well worth the money...

I only own a Blackjack thrower and the tip is a needle STILL after 13 or so years of abuse and misses. The black coating is dulling and there are a few scratches here and there, but nothing major. The best throwing knife I've ever owned.

I have two Blackjack knives my uncle gave to me. I really like them both. One is a drop point blade and the other has more of a skinner blade on it. I believe they are both A-2 tool steel, they seem to hold an edge very well. I dont know a lot about knives but these two fixed blades have served me well for several years. My local knife expert tells me they are essentially modeled after some Randall knife designs. I really like the leather handle. I use the drop point mostly and think it has excellent feel and weight to it. It feels very balanced in my hand while using it. I understand this company is no longer in buisness. I say if you have the opportunity to get one you should. I have always been pleased with mine.

I have one of the older Effingham-made Blackjack knives. The quality is tops and the Blackjack knives of that era have increased in value dramatically.

I haven't handled the new Blackjacks.

I have a Black Jack Model #7119 Applegate-Fairbairn fixed blade, double edged, new with box and sheath, that I bought in 1994-95. This is the model that has been made by others since that time.
Any idea of what it might be worth and how desirable it might be?

Are we talking about Mike Stewarts or Ken Warners?

Today's USA made Black Jacks are made by Mike Stewart & his Bark River Knife & Tool Co., for Ken Warner.

The other present day Black Jacks, such as the "Quick" with the Kraton handles, are made in Seki City, Japan.

Just a little more Black Jack lore ~ Old production/original/Mike Stewart Black Jack logo was a dagger through the Ace of Spades ~ New production/Ken Warner/Knifeware Black Jack logo is dagger through the Ace of Hearts.:)

Yep, my older A-F Black Jack has the dagger through the ace of spades.

I have several of the older Blackjacks, including Trailguides, Woodsman, Subhilt, Stalker, Halo, etc. I look for the ones in A2, which is a great steel in my opinion. These older knives all have convex grinds right to the edge bevel and all will shave hair above the skin. While A2 is not the toughest steel out there, it is tougher than D2 and holds an edge about the same. It will rust if not properly cared for. I like the Micarta handles versions, but you can find them with stacked leather handles and other materials like resin impregnated wood. Some are indeed fashioned after the Randall knives, but others are Mike Stewart's own design. Considering the price of Randalls, the older Blackjacks are a bargain. :)
