This knife looks awesom but i have a couple of questions about it.
1. what is a mortise tang?? i have seen pictures of the top of the handle and you can see the tang but have seen no pics of the bottom so is it like a half tang??
2. does it have a leather sheath? i assume so since everything else i have seen from them does, but their website or the dealers i have seen do not specify
3.Does anyone have one of these or other blackjacks? how do they perform, i know its a "pretty" knife and all but i intend on using it not making it a safe queen.
4. PICTURES PLEASE??

1) AG Russell has a basic description of a Mortised Tang at his knife encyclopedia: http://www.agrussell.com/knife_encyclopedia/a/120/
Shouldn't be difficult to find photos and more info online.

2) Some dealers are advertising it as including a brown leather sheath.

3) My Blackjack is an older model made in Effingham, Illinois. It certainly is pretty but it's never been used. Quality comparisons between those and current production might not be relevant anyhow.

4) Tons of pictures online. http://www.google.com/images?q=blackjack+model+14

Nothing's wrong with BRKT or Blackjack. You'll be fine buying the Blackjack Model 14.

Nothing wrong with them at all.

It was a joke between Sufler and I that goes back over a year.

I shouldn't have pulled it ... my apologies.

You will be very happy with the Black Jack.

I recently bought a BJ Halo Attack with black BP style handle. I love everything about the knife. I am anxiously awaiting the next batch in the 5.5" blade version.

Pick one up you wont be sorry. I recently also met the folks at Bark River Knives when I spent the week training in Escanaba. I came away mightily impressed with the level of professionalism and dedication to quality displayed by all of the folks there. Chief among them Mike himself.

As a matter of fact while Mike and I were engaged in conversation at the front of the shop, one of the guys came in from the back of the shop area with a knife he had been working on and showed it to Mike.

Apparently the knife had a very small cosmetic imperfection somewhere on the blade and he wanted guidance from the boss on whether to proceed with it. Mike took one look and it was summarily rejected.

I spoke to many of the employees there and that same level of pride in their workmanship was evident in all of them. It gave me a sense of pride to know that there are still places in our country where good old American craftsmanship not only exists but thrives.
