Anyone put one to work?
Any thoughts?
I have skinned and cut up a deer and a few apples. Little thick in the blade for slicing purposes. Cutting the apples was like splitting wood with a maul.
Feels great in the hand and worked well as a skinner, and the point is good for fine work.

I had one in toxic green (got it on closeout from KSF). I only carried it once - crossdraw on a belt - and determined it was too handle-heavy for my tastes. Too bad because the quality and ergos were great.

It is a bit handle heavy. A thought had crossed my mind to make the tang skeletonized.

Good looking knife. Too bad about it being handle heavy.

Bark River still makes a variant of these called the STS (3, 4, 5, and 6, IIRC). KSF has some on their site, some others as well.

I personally like the 4 a lot for a deer knife. The blade is a bit deep for bunghole duty, but other than that it worked great and they hold an edge well too. I honestly think the reason these didn't go over very well was because of the handles. People found them to be uncomfortable...to blocky, not ergonomic, I just rounded off the corners a bit on my first one and that took care of the hot spot issue. The second one I got I changed by taking off the paint, sanding the flats smooth, then polishing the entire thing. Added some thicker snakewood scales to it that were more rounded on the edges with a bit of a palm swell and butt. It's now my favorite knife. If you can get one cheap enough and like to do a little tinkering with your knives I'd say go for it, you won't regret it.

SOFileworks - would love to see pics of those mods.

I actually like the blockiness of the handle although would like the scales to be a bit thinner, but not much. I was thinking the sheath was also another reason these didnt sell well. For example, the esee 3 or 4 you get sheath, belt clip, and molle attachment. Not so with the tac ops series.
