Looking for a new edc, and wondering if anybody has any experience with this one. My wife has the model 155 neck knife, and loves it. And I have to admit the few times I've used it, were good experiences. Are these still made by bark river? I'm a little confused about the steel used though. The Blackjack site says A2 steel, but the ones I've seen for sale all say 1095 steel. I have no issues with 1095, as both of my current edc blades are 1095, but wouldn't mind giving the A2 a try. So, what's everybody's thoughts?

Blackjack is still made by Bark River.

The TacOps 4 was designed by Mike Stewart and Mike Grasso, both know how to design an effective blade.

The '4 works great in forward or reverse grip, and the flare on the back of the blade is a great thumb ramp for a Filipino grip.

I think I'll add one of these to my "knives to get SOON" list. The coating on the tang of the TacOps will stop the tang from rusting from sweat, and the coating stops "kydex scratches" on the blade. Thanks :)

Had that model if you can try one out before you buy it. My only problem with it is the handle is too small at least for my hand.

Appreciate the replies. My other 2 edc blades are an esee 3 and a eskabar. So the smaller handles don't bother me even though I have large hands. Smkw is selling the 1095 version for 80 bucks right now, but I would like to give a2 a shot. I'll probably end up with the 1095 though since I only live about 30 miles from smkw.

The TacOps models with A2 steel were prototypes, of which I believe 50 were made in each handle color and each size. The standard offering is 1095, I've got both and honestly can't tell the difference between the 2 when using them. The handle on these knives is not what I would call small, more like it's thin when compared to the height of it. I made thicker scales for both of mine, so I could give them a bit more profile and round them off a bit more, and the results were impressive. In my opinion, the only drawback to this knife is a rather uncomfortable handle, which can be remedied easily enough. Great clip point blade, awesome convex grind, cuts like a sumbich and if you get the larger version, in my case the tacops 8, it makes a hell of a chopper as well.

Just saw this. Well, I had no idea that effective July 1st, Tennessee law changed, removing the 4" blade limit on carried knives. Thanks knife rights! Anyway, with that being the case, maybe I will go for the bigger 6 or 8. Heck, they are all the same price! How much sense does that make?

I handled a number of the Tac Ops Blackjacks a couple of years ago and I didn't care for the handles relative to my preferences. I believe the Tac Ops series was an attempt to produce a more economical knife but still well branded.

A similar knife that I was looking at closely was the Kabar Snoddy (bigger one).... liked the look. But when I handled the knife, the handle is very thin and there is no convenient belt attachment for the leather sheath. So, I will pass on that one until Kabar produces a sheath I like.

As far as the size goes and EDC, that is your call. But anything over about 5" blade length gets a bit cumbersome for regular carry unless you are out in the woods or field (vs urban carry). I have been wanting to get the Blackjack neck knife for some time now with the extra handles. The uses and my preferences dictate knife size and usually blade length. I have zero need for a bigger knife as an EDC. That's just me. But I buy a lot of knives and yeah, I sometimes hope that I might be open to carrying a longer bladed knife on a regular basis. It just never works out that way for me.
