Are the Trailguides Ken Warner sold made by the Bowie Corporation? How do they compare to the originals made by Blackjack in Effingham, IL? Thanks.

Not sure if they are made by Bowie or not, but they seem every bit as good as my original Effingham one.

I think when Mike stewart was with Marbles he was producing them for Ken Warner. I'm not sure who makes them now. I have both. They are both good but I like the original A2 Trailguide more. It scaled down from the newer model.

Thanks guys.

Scott, do you mean that the newer ones from Ken Warner are larger? The one that I am considering is sold by DLT trading company. Listed under Bowie Corp., made by Marbles for Blackjack. Looks the same, except maybe the grind is more shallow than the original Effingham models.

Richard, from what I understand the Bowie Corp. is a dealer for Marbles. They usually have alot of special made Marbles knives. I'm not sure what their dealings are with Ken. Here's a pic of the two trailguides I have. The top is the Effingham BJ and the bottom is the newer version. Notice that the handle on the top knife is slimmer. The grinds are also slightly different. Blade length is the same.

I've never seen them side by side like that, I never realized how much difference in the handle size there was.

I have the same leather washer handled Effingham one, truly one of my favorite knives!

I own one of Ken's Trailguide knives and I would say that it is every bit as good as the older Blackjack's which I also own,

I like both of them also, it's just I favor the Effingham version more because it's easier to move in your hand, well mine anyway. :D The newer 52100 blade is as sharp as a whip, I just like A2 steel better.

I own several of both the old Blackjack Trailguide and the newer Ken Warner version. Both are Mike Stewart products, or at least the first run of Ken's knives were actually made by Mike. The handle on the newer version is significantly larger in diameter than the older Blackjack Knives version. You will also find the newer handle on some Bark River prototypes.

As has been posted, the older knives are A2 and the newer ones are made of 52100. A2 seems to get a little sharper and hold an edge better than the 52100 version, but the difference is minimal. I too like the old handle size better, but if you have larger hands the new one may be more suitable to your tastes. Both are excellent knives suited for a variety of chores.
