I forged the blade last summer from a depression era rock drill bit. I have hours of heatin’ and beatin’ in it and it kept getting bigger. Ended up at 12″ of blade length by 2 1/2″ by 1/4″ thick. Quenched in salt water. Then it sat because I couldn't find a handle I liked, then a 2 dollar broken flea market hatchet supplied this one. It is toasted, scrapped and waxed, no dye. The end was beat up so I poured pewter on the butt and bolster/feral. The guard is part of a RR clip.
The sheath is veg-tanned scraps, stitched with linen harness cord. I was in one of my minimalist moods so all I used on the sheath was my "Old Timer" pocket knife, a sharpened nail to poke holes, vinegeroon dye and warmed beeswax. It's a big one, 19" from butt to tip of sheath.....Thanks for looking.....Randy

This was not a kit.

I've started to like the rustic forged knife look. I recently put my toe in the pool, with a forged Kiridashi. I keep looking around and sooner or later, I'll take the plunge, and get me a big knife.
Nice Bowie! I really like the handle.

Thank You Gents, and Foxx, if you can hammer the chisel on a Kiradashi, you can hammer anything. I have about 25 in the scrap pile with real crooked bevels......Randy

Sorry Randy, I meant I PURCHASED a forged Kiridashi. The one that Scott Rouch had up for sale two weeks ago. I didn't mean to mislead, and yes, I wish I could hammer that well. Ask my old boss from the body shop, I'm not that good with a hammer!
I was just paying a compliment to the style, as a "future" knife maker, not a current one.
This is Scott's pic, of the Kiridashi I bought..

Sorry, I ass u me ed. I LOVE Scotts work, he is a talented man. I carry a Kiradashi like the one you have in my pocket everyday. Cuts cardboard better than a razor knife. Mine is from a broken file and does not look anywhere as good as yours but you can start fires with the sides......Randy
