Hey everyone!
Tired of being a complete wage slave, I have decided to live a childhood dream. This September I will be taking a 10 week black smithing course in Ontario, taught by Lloyd Johnson. My main interest is historical tools, weapons, and of course blades!

I plan on keeping my regular job to support myself, because if I had to rely on black smithing for my income, I would start to lose all passion I have for it.

I expect it to be a lot of hard, hard work, and I expect to be near broke through most of it (nothing new there!) but ultimately I feel it could turn into my calling.

Do any of you have some advice for a young'un starting his way in the world of black smithing?
Cheers, Ian

Good luck.....

Hit it while it's hot.

Just because it ain't red don't mean it ain't hot.

Just because your shirt is on fire is no reason to waste a heat.

Never walk barefoot around an active or recently active forge.

Never try to catch something in the shop or smithy.

Be careful picking tools up after using them, they get pretty damn hot.

Anvils get pretty damn hot.
