Forged this little guy from 1084 completely to shape including edge geometry, started out as a 7" piece of 1/2" x 1/4", critique and comments welcome. 8" overall.

I have a thick skin and understand real critique, please do not be gentle for fear of hurting my feelings.

I think it is very cool, I could see that hanging on the wall in a cabin in fort Edmonton. The way you did the two S's look nice, kind of like snakes.

man that is nice Sam. I keep meaning to look at this thread on Fogg and keep forgetting. Glad I took a look....

I like the blade design, the handle and the ornamentation. I would suggest a little more consistent finish. I know nothing of your craft, but I have an Ulu style cheese knive I got from the Mo blacksmith tent at the state fair, It has a dark black finish, that appears natural and not applied. It was made from a farrier's hasp.

I like the edge from the tip to the end of the belly, but the straigher part looks a little uneven and the edge end looks unfinished and possibly an annoyance when sharpening.

But the true test is how does it cut and does it hold the edge?

Good job.

Love the blade shape.
Think you did a heck of a job especially considering it's all forged.

I'm known mostly as an art knife guy, But I love the "smithed raw" look!! That piece is really nice Sam. I especially dig how you integrated your initials into the blade design.
I've made a few like that too from time to time.

Thanks Very much guys!

Brownshoe it cuts real slick and holds a good edge. I should have cleaned up the base of the blade a bit more into a cleaner transition and "ended" the edge.

JD I love those! going to have to give that type of handle a try. I love the forged cutter I got from you at Ashokan, still sharp as heck!

I like it. I like it enough I may have to do some thing similar to hang on the wall of my barn. My wife does not always carry a knife on her around the farm and that would be great for her, cutting twine, and other barn related tasks.

Sam, could you put a lanyard on it and take some pictures of you wearing it as a necker? :D And some video of you dancing with it on as a necker? :D

Great job man, we both know how hard it is to forge clean.

Mr Floyd, this would be a great knife for that, give it a beeswax finish to keep it from rusting.

Wil, wil do! :D

When I forge blacksmith letter openers at demos I use beeswax as a finish. The smell of hot steel and beeswax is nice. :)

Simple great knife. It is forged and hammered to shape and that's not easy> respect!
