I was wondering if anyone knows how to smith a knife. Since alot of people have seen "The Hunted" does anyone know how to smith the knife Benicio made? or at least an easy process to make a knife perferebly one like that?

That sounds like a question for Razorback-knives. also check over in the knife makers forum, lots of good info there. I'd like to know the answer to that one myself. I saw that movie on TV a while back. Wasn't that a Tracker WSK? Not sure.

Forging a knife like the Tracker would be very difficult, there is also little benefit to it because you would be better off grinding it to shape in most cases though you might want to anneal and then harden it. Generally you would forge to weld a bunch of scrap metals together or make a knife from an odd shaped piece of steel. Tai Goo and a bunch of other guys do really "primitive" (meaning no high tech equipment) blade making, search for Neo-Tribal, they have made knives out of unexpected materials like bottle caps.

That part in The Hunted was so silly that it wasn't even funny.
How in the hell did he manage to find a file ? and a guy with his combat skills could use the file itself instead of taking the time to make a knife.
I know a lot of folks love that film but I thought some of it way corny , especially that "forging" part.
Just my 2 cents.

I am now making a "survival kukri" that bears rough resemblance to the Tracker...and it takes at least 8-10 hours to make each one (not counting heat-treat time - several more hours).

Now, granted, I do believe you could make a servicable blade in an hour or so...but not the Tracker.

A good blacksmith would be able to forge a Tracker to shape - no doubt in my mind. I've seen them do some amazing stuff with steel. But it would undoubtedly require a lot of fore-thought and proper set-up...and specific tools.

Best of luck with your search!

I've done some knife making. Not a lot. But I second that. You could make a quick 'n dirty one in little time if you had the materials available. Something that looks nice and has a well-tempered edge would take longer.

Are you sure he used a file? I thought that he used a rock.
