This place is one of my favorite in the area. Often one could find me hiking, canoeing/kayaking or at the archery range. This is from a hike of a trails I did in mid February. As always I carried my Spyderco Salt 1 (SE). http://www.dupageforest.com/Conserva...Blackwell.html
I made sure to wear layers and keep my boots on and covered with my snow pants. The snow ranged from 4"-6" in most parts to 1'6" in some. I also hit up the Archery range (sorry no pics) I only was able to last 45min with out my thick coat on before it got too cold for me. Then it was time for a decent hike I did a little over 5 miles.
I was the first person to walk to trail and did notice a few spots recently had some cross country skiers.
I noticed deer and raccoon tracks leading to this.
A birds winter home
I love how water interacts with landscapes
Made a new friend! He/She just looked at me a while and I was able to take a bunch of shots...
Trail opened up and transitioned from heavily wooded forest to prairie
Being a bit artistic
The trees in the far part were home to some type of bird family (the area around this was a marsh)
Made another friend though this one was a bit more afraid of me
Deer tracks...underneath about 8" of snow...
A little history lesson, to which this hike was very reminiscent...
Nothing abnormal at all.....
Still some seed pods hold on from fall
Winter Wonderland...
Another Great hike. I did get a bit hot from the pace I was keeping but, that is why layers are an intelligent choice.
Thanks for looking!
