Blackwood NNHD -- "Lightning Bolt" maple

Another Blackwood beauty. I love that wood that was used for the handle, but have never heard of Lightning Bolt maple. Sure is pretty though.

I think it's called "lighnting bolt" because the dark in the wood is shaped like a lightning bolt on the other side of the handle. Anyway, that is some of the most unusual and awesome looking wood I'vee seen.

Michael,

NICE PIC!!! Let me clear something up regarding the "Lightning Bolt" maple....... It was just a unique, single CHUNK of spalted maple. That particular batch was picked, cut and dried in my shop and stabilized by WSSI.

I remember calling it Lightning Bolt Maple in of the threads, due to the nature of the grain pattern, jokingly as I recall, with with winking smilies, etc. After that I recieved several Emails requesting it on other knives and even used the name on my build sheets to make sure I used the right wood!.

I hope I didn't cause any missunderstanding or confusion!! Anyway, there is NONE left so even if I did coin the name, or INVENT a new wood :grumpy: it's a moot point!!

Next thing is FROGLEG Maple!! NO I'm not kidding, I'll have to take a picture, you won't BELIEVE this :D

Oh I can't wait to see this. Whatever you put it on, you'll need to get Kenny Rowe to make you a frogskin sheath for it.

Michael - nice knife you got there. :)

Yeah, I like it.

I should have gone with a Kenny Rowe sheath when I had the chance.

Anybody have contact info for him?

Mike
