Two recent acquisitions. I can’t seem to get off this fixed blade kick, not that I tried too hard to stop myself.

~ Neil Blackwood Wharncliffe Fiend with asymmetrical grinds

Neil’s description of the knife: “Stonewashed S30V, mill scale texture on flats, .200 thick. 6 3/4" OAL, 3 1/2" from tip to the middle of the integral guard, 2 3/4" sharpened. This version features a unique asymmetric grind with the final edge sharpened on one (right) side….the left side is VERY hollow, the right side is basically a hollow chisel grind.”

I love wharncliffes and combining that with the unusual grinds made it pretty much impossible for me to pass on this knife. I really like the finish on this one. I’m not quite sure of the right word I’d use to describe it, maybe weathered captures it best. In any case, I like the fact that it’s not shiny and perfectly smooth. Just something about the combination of this finish with this model design that struck a chord with me. Neil also made note of how sharp the knife was and it was no joke. It is incredibly sharp.

~ Shane Sibert TAD Gear Explorer II

A good chap here on the boards noticed in a previous post about my Sibert Minion that I wanted to get more of Shane’s knives and offered to sell me this one. What I love on this knife are its lines and how they play into the grip on the knife. I like the look of the deep choil and the aggressive thumb ramp, but beyond the look is the fact that both of those elements give this knife outstanding traction in my hand. This handle feels like it was molded to my grip, it fits just right. This is a knife I plan to put to use around the house and outside. With confident grip and Shane’s rock solid construction I know it will get the job done.

Very nice! That little Blackwood is very cool and very unique. I love those crazy grinds and the stippled finish.

I too own a Sibert Minion and understand the desire to acquire more of his work. His knives are expertly made and have fantastic ergonomics. That TAD Explorer is no exception. Love it! :)

Great pics too.

Thanks for the comments. Next step is to get sheaths for them and I'm talking to Eric at On/Scence Tactical for that, so stay tuned for more pics down the road.
