Two recent acquisitions. I cant seem to get off this fixed blade kick, not that I tried too hard to stop myself.
~ Neil Blackwood Wharncliffe Fiend with asymmetrical grinds
Neils description of the knife: Stonewashed S30V, mill scale texture on flats, .200 thick. 6 3/4" OAL, 3 1/2" from tip to the middle of the integral guard, 2 3/4" sharpened. This version features a unique asymmetric grind with the final edge sharpened on one (right) side .the left side is VERY hollow, the right side is basically a hollow chisel grind.
I love wharncliffes and combining that with the unusual grinds made it pretty much impossible for me to pass on this knife. I really like the finish on this one. Im not quite sure of the right word Id use to describe it, maybe weathered captures it best. In any case, I like the fact that its not shiny and perfectly smooth. Just something about the combination of this finish with this model design that struck a chord with me. Neil also made note of how sharp the knife was and it was no joke. It is incredibly sharp.

A good chap here on the boards noticed in a previous post about my Sibert Minion that I wanted to get more of Shanes knives and offered to sell me this one. What I love on this knife are its lines and how they play into the grip on the knife. I like the look of the deep choil and the aggressive thumb ramp, but beyond the look is the fact that both of those elements give this knife outstanding traction in my hand. This handle feels like it was molded to my grip, it fits just right. This is a knife I plan to put to use around the house and outside. With confident grip and Shanes rock solid construction I know it will get the job done.
