Hi Everyone,
First of all I have to say this sucks but I am not surprised, here is the story;
Today when I checked my email and found a message sent to myself and a few others who are involved with Blade Magazine (I was thinking about getting a table for my sheaths) concerning new security measures that will be implemented, starting with this year's Blade Show and going forward. The email stated a more formal announcement will be made soon on the magazine's website detailing the how's and why's of these new security procedures.
I am notifying you all of this ahead of time so you have a leg up and can plan appropriately with this in the back of your mind.
It has come to light in recent years at the show of the growing problem of what is known as "brown bagging", and the show organizers are going to nip it in the bud this year. Basically, it is not fair at all to paying tableholders to have folks enter into the show and solicit business in the aisles of the show, making sales of knives brought with them into the show.
Therefore, starting in 2009 everyone entering the Blade Show will be required to pass through an airport style security checkpoint. Each person will be allowed to carry one (1) knife into the show. You will be asked to empty your pockets and if you carry multiple folders (like me) you will be asked to keep only one on you and you must temporarily surrender the rest. So, it's best to secure your other knives in your vehicle or locked luggage inside the hotel room if you do not have a knife bag. Those of us like myself who carry a knife bag with knives in it, are subject to search. The knife bags will be relinquished and held in a baggage check style in which your bag will be tagged with your name and a contact number [e.g. cell phone number] and the bags will be taken by security personnel for storage in a separate room in the Cobb Galleria Centre. Upon exiting the show you will present your claim stub to the security official and they will bring your bag to you.
So, I'm warning you guys and gals ahead of time in order to save yourself the hassle of the newly implemented security checkpoint. Arrive at the show extra early so you can wade through the line, and get checked upon entering the show.
Remember one knife per person only inside the Blade Show.
