Mike, That's a great looking knife. I like the damascus pattern. Jim Treacy

Very beautiful indeed.

One idea: if the tang was tapered, it might give the handle a more light and slim appearance to compiment the slim profile and appearance of the blade.

Here is one that will be going to Les. The Blade is 4 3/4" long. The Steel is 320 layers of 1084 & 15n20. The Fittings are SS. Amber stag Handle. The photo is by Chuck Ward. Please let me know what you think.

Very nice Mike. The first pattern looks like "west texas wind" pattern and the second a modified "wolf's tooth". Great execution of the steel.

Hi Kevin,

You have a good eye. The first one is West Texas Wind, and the second one is a true chevron pattern. I made the blade with stag first, and I didn't think the pattern came out the way I wanted it to. Even after etching I was not happy with it. When I finished buffing it, I changed my mind. The shimmer on that knife is outstanding. The photo does not show that.

Other than no two pieces being exactly the same, I like the unexpected pleasant surprises associated with creating damascus the best. :)

Mike these are really wonderful knives super execution damascus and handle materials
here comes a but ..but not really a but per se but a question
have you or anyone looking at this post considered a tapered frame handle especially on a hunter/utility
I love the practicality of stainless frame but find the weight a bit annoying in hand especially on a hunter or ute.

I really like the shape of the butt of the handle on that first one. The whole knife looks darn fine to me. I think the second one looks great as well.

Great looking damascus on both of those! I'd be proud to own either one.

not that it matters, but since you asked, I'm not crazy about the bump on the butt of the handle on the first one. Without that, I think I'd love it- quite a lot- as the materials and proportions seem just right to me.

As for the other two, they look very useful. A nice, controllable blade profile and a meaty looking handle. Ready to go to work in style. Lucky prey! Again, great choice of materials and proportions.

I first was turned on to your knives by an article Les wrote for KI. I still flip back to that page from time to time to look at that sheep horn handled bowie there. I think you have an excellent eye for design, and your execution looks pretty damn fair as well. Your work's definitely contributed greatly to my newfound interest in forged cutlery.

You're on the short list too!:)

Since you have ask for a true opinion, I will tell you what I see. Great looking Knife Sir!!

Whats more, I like the way you finished the point. I see far too many High Dollar Forged blades with the points nubbed off, and left far too think to be of any use.

Looks to me like you know what a knife is for, and how to make a knife that can preform. Kinda refreshing now days.

Congrats Sir!

Mike Lovett
