Loving sheepsfoot and wharncliffe blades, I am interested in the little #25, but the vendors that have it only list the size as 3" but I don't know how long the blade is or what the overall open length is. Anyone here have one so they can answer these questions?

The blade is 2 and 1/8 inches, so it's 5 and 1/8 inches opened.

I usually don't use inches for measuring so please excuse me if I wrote it the wrong way.

It's a lovely little knife, you should get one while you can if you like it.

I picked one up here on the forum a few weeks ago. Slim and enjoyable knife to use and carry.

It's a small fella. But really well built and stout. Here's an old pic of a #25 in hand that I've posted before.

Yours shows a shield but the one I've seen on the vendor doesn't have one. I thought shields were a virtual staple of traditionals?

Not sure about the shields. Do a search here for a member called AKC. He's got a massive collection of #25s with photos on this forum. Maybe he can answer your question about the shields/no shields.

The little GEC 25 has gradually become one of my favorite knives to carry. I have many more that are better looking or much more rare but as far as actual use none of them really do anything better than my little 25's at least for what I use my knives for 99% of the time which is opening boxes and packages.

Most traditional knives do have a shield but the barlow is one that a lot of times is an exception to that rule.

THe #25 is a great little pattern, and I really hope that GEC does another run of them soon. I don't have a measurement of the #25 open, but here it is next to a #15 for comparison:

Not always. Many Barlow patterns, Boy's knifes, Eureka patterns, etc. don't necessarily have shields. Personally, on my #25 pictured above, I really like the clean and simple looks of the ebony without a shield.

The #25 barlows don't have shields but an extended bolster. The ones with the regular size bolster and no shields are all steel models. Most of the #25s do have shields, it's just really hard to find one with a single blade still available. Some dealers do have the 2 blade models still.

Oh man I love that sheepsfoot single-blade #15! But nobody seems to make anything like that right now. Hopefully GEC will decide to do another run of those

I sure hope so. The #15 Scout/sheepsfoot and the #25 are pretty much at the top of my 'wish list' for new runs from GEC.

Does anyone know if they're planning on doing another run? This knife is at the top of my 'wish list' as well and is a pretty tough find!

I believe certain 25s are due for a re-issue this summer, but I'm not sure about the Sheepfoot variant.

Here's one I use a lot.

Thanks for the info, Will! Another run this summer would be great! Gorgeous knife, btw!

When did I become pmew01 ?!?!

I'm so confused.

Bizarre indeed! But imitation is a form of flattery after all.:D

About the 25s: I think they may be out later in the summer after the all new small lockback 83 (which I'm gibbering over as it looks really nice with drop-point blade) But, they're in the pipeline fortunately as it's a cheerful handy pattern.

Thanks, Will
