Blade angle on Code 4

Hi guys, I'm brand new to Blade Forums.

I received my new Code 4 clip point with serrations today. That thing is built solid. This is my first Cold Steel knife but not the last.

Anyway, can anyone tell me the angle the Code 4 is set at? I sharpen with a Lansky sharpening system and usually use a 20 or a 25 degree angle for most of my knives.

Just a guess, but I'd expect the factory bevels to be closer to 25* per side than to 20*. Color the edge bevels (the plain section, not the serrations) with Sharpie marker, clamp the blade into your lansky, and take a few swipes using the 20* slot. If you're scraping the marker off the whole width of the bevel on each side, then you're good to go, just keep sharpening it at that angle. More likely, you'll see the marker being scraped off near the tops of the bevels, meaning the bevels are steeper than 20*. If this is the case, move up to the 25* slots and sharpen from there. If by some chance the factory bevels are even more obtuse than 25* (which is always possible with factory edges), I wouldn't suggest going all the way up to the 30* setting. A 60* included edge is just sort of ridiculous, no matter the type of steel or what you plan to use it for. Just reprofile the bevels at the 25* setting.

I have 2 cold steel folders, a spartan and a voyager tanto, both had to be reprofiled as te grinds were not symmetrical. One side was 25° an the other was something between 20° and 25°. When I looked at the blade from the tip end you could see the difference. Anyone have any idea as to why they were like that?

Like Freman noted, most factory knives are sharpened by hand on a grinding belt. They tend to be slightly variable and uneven as a result. This really shows up the first time you sharpen them yourself. You'll often find high or low spots, bevels that are wider at the tip or heel, vary from side to side, etc.
