Hi all

Does anyone know the blade angle for the Spyderco Manix2 G10 plain edge x- large.

Thanks Roger

Do you mean angle of the blade in relation to the handle when its opened, or the angles of the bevels?

Sorry I mean the angle of the bevels. I would think it would be about 21 degrees each side. But I don't know.

Thanks

Roger

Spyderco usually finishes their blades between 15 and 18 dps , IIRC. They do that so that they can be touched up with the 20dps setting on their Sharpmaker. The blades are hand finished, however, so the angles can vary somewhat.

Very interesting.

Thanks a lot for the info.

I agree, the Sharpmaker I have is much older, 15+ years. I think it says 30*. That's most likely inclusive, not per side. That's a really safe start. As you progress, you can "refine" what you like. The Sharpmaker is a great tool to start with. :)

There are a few ways to measure your edge angle. Do you have a caliper? With some basic trig you can determine the exact angle, which on a production knife varies from piece to piece.

An easy way to figure out the angle is to mark the edge of the blade with a colored Sharpie. You'll see exactly when you sharpen the correct angle. Another useful tool to have is an angle cube.
