I'll have a few others too. I might take a few more images of the hamon...if I get bored ;) :).

WOW! Excellent work, Matt!

P.S. What kind of wood is this handle made from? Looks really unusual! I like it.

That's a nice selection! Would really love to see the hamon and have a chance to coon-finger 'em!

Any chance a Hokie alum could get a break? :D

As it is, I just may be able to attend Blade this year afterall - I'm driving to NC to visit the folks and may be able to time it so that the return trip lets me cut down thru Atlanta that weeked... Might get a chance to check your work out if I get there early enough!

Dang, but this is gonna be an expensive trip! :o

:D

Thanks guys!

The handle on the smaller bowie is stabilized quilted maple.

Here's another piece I'll have with me. Terrible hamon shot...

You can't win them all ;) :).

Matt

Great attitude! And of course they will sell. All I read in this Gallery is cudos written by the same guys so I thought I would cast a refreshing dissenting vote, and my honest opinion. I am a collector of 35 years, not a maker. I regard knives as tools, and features which inhibit usefullness (even though they may never be used) I vote against. Regarding the knives pictured, I think the acute edges around the finger guards would be uncomfortable in my hand during heavy or prolonged use, and the crossguard on the fighter should be wider, and I prefer a high polish blade. I know makers tend to follow current trends, fads, and marketability, and you must put food on the table, but I don't have to like it.

I do like the blade shapes and the big handles but, same as the guards, I like a little more radius on the handle corners. The workmanship looks to be high quality.

Minority opinion, I suppose.

Thanks for the opinions.

I would never fault someone's opinion of my designs. However, I would if they said my craftsmanship was bad :).

Just an FYI; the blades are all polished to 2000 grit and are mirrors at the right angle, all guards are radiused so there is no sharp edge, and the guards generally appear smaller in photos than in real life.

Thanks again!

~By the way, I only make knives for fun, definitely not to put food on the table ;).

Maybe it's just the lighting in the picture but that bottom one is CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN!
