Blade centering issues

Hello all. I'm fairly new to the forums and I appreciate all who post and give enlightening information daily.

To my post topic now, I have a good friend not on the forums who has an issue. He bought a Benchmade Rift Cutlery Shop exclusive and it showed up with the blade touching one side. So I worked with it, watched several you tube videos on different ways of getting it back to center with no luck. He ended up sending it back to benchmade and got it back about 3 or 4 weeks ago. It showed back up about 80% centered which I was not pleased with myself. Now it is back touching. I think when you pay $130+ for a knife it should be perfect( or at least able to be tweaked to perfect). What steps would you take next? He isn't loaded, so a new knife is out of the question. It's obvious to me there is a manufacturer defect that they obviously didn't correct on the first trip back to them. He doesn't want to send it back to them monthly to get a semi centered blade. Opinions on how you guys would handle this would be greatly appreciated. If this is in the wrong place please let me know. I do not want to break any rules here.

Thanks all, hope to hear some helpful advice.

Have you tried tightening the pivot? It's possible the pivot is too loose or the pivot screw is backing out. Tighten the pivot and if it still comes loose, add some Blue Loctite to keep it from coming loose.

I tried that. Also tried loosening all screws then manipulating one side forward the other side backward and tightening. Went back off center immediately. Then tried putting a shim on the side it was touching so it was touching the other side and tightened and as soon as I took the shim out it went back to that side. I feel like either the pivot hole in the blade isn't drilled straight or the holes in the handles don't line up like they should.

Personally I would try to exchange it for a new one. If that's a no-go, then I'd send it back to BM with a nicely written description of the issue, including the fact it's already been to their warranty center once. Usually they do a nice job. I agree...I wouldn't be happy with 80% centered on it. The Rift is a nice nice in the black line, so I would think they would want to fix it right for your friend.
