Hi guys, i own a Bm 580 Barrage with a 154cm blade ... i love the knife, how it loks, performs and feels in the hand...imo it's almost perfect.
I say almost perfect and i mean the blade... i'm thinking of buying a Bm 581 Barrage for the m390 steel and the blade geometry(the spine of the blade is diffrent, stronger)...but i HATE the aluminium on the handle.

So...i'm asking are the blades identical? And can i put the m390 blade in the 580 handle...?

Thanks!

I asked this question a while back, and I was told that, even though certain models look like they would be interchangeable, certain internal components don't line up right. The result is that you would actually have to build your own handle (which some have done!).

The only swap possible is between the Presidio, and the Bone Collector knives, because they are mechanically identical, with different handle materials.

I know what you mean, although I love the aluminum handle on my 581, but had the same delema with my spyderco PM2, I loved it so much but wanted it in M390. so I bought a blue one and switched the blad with a black handle one. Now I have a back PM 2 with M390 and was able to resell the black S30 blade in the blue handle and made a nice profit taking the edge off the price of the M390 a little.

I would love to be able to get a mini-barrage in M390 as I feel the 381 is a little big for EDC.

Another idea is to get ahold of Kevin Wilkins and commission a pair of custom scales. We also have a couple real talented guys right here on BF who could do the job for you.

No need to change the blades. Just switch the scales. Thats what I did with mine. The internal components are the exact same and the scales switch out perfectly
