Blade Coating on SBMF - Someone from Buck Please...

I got my second Buck/Strider SBMF this morning. I'd like to start off by saying that, overall, I am a huge fan of this design. This is a serious tool. I am disappointed by the coating on the blade. My first SBMF (black handle) had a coating consistency that was marginal, with dull spots on it, like it hadn't been completely cleaned after treating.

This one actually has what looks like a splash mark of darker, duller black at the base, on the left side of the blade. Some of it comes off on a towel if cleaned with dish soap. I have two knives, from another manufacturer that I won't name, (including one made overseas!) that have flawless coating jobs on them. They cost about the same or less than the SBMF.

I'd really like to hear from our friends at Buck about this. I understand that sometimes the processes for this sort of thing take some time to work out. I think the QA folks should have caught this one. I'd really like to get another SBMF with a MUCH nicer blade coating job on it. :grumpy:

I also like this design, but I have to agree on the blade finish. My green handle example has one of the worst looking dark blade finishes I have ever seen on a quality makers knife. Very splotchy and uneven. Still a good user knife, but I was disappointed in the appearance. I have seen many other knives in the same or lower price range with much better dark blade finishes.

I am going to discuss this with Jeff Hubbard, our QA guy. Will try to get an answer back soon.

The coating is a Black Oxide. When the oil comes off of it, it doesn't look as good. We are working with our supplier to improve
