Blade coating or no?

What's your take on blade coating?

Does it provide any sort of corrosion resistance advantage?

I'm looking at a mini-griptillian either satin or black coated, also an LAPG TBFK in either satin or black stonewashed.

I don’t believe there to be a definitive answer. It really depends on the knife geometry, intended use, and steel composition.

For the blades you mention that your getting I think you’d be fine to skip the coatings as those stainless steels do pretty well without them.

Appreciate the feedback, but I'm still new and trying to learn, so can you provide me with a reason, the why to the no?

I like some coating for cosmetic reasons, but my OCD annoys me a lot with it.
I rather not, if it's going to be a user.

I don't like the looks of it personally. I had a Kershaw Blur with a black DLC coating for a while but would have much preferred it in "natural steel." The steel itself was already stainess so I don't know what level of protection it might have provided. It tends to get scuffed up with use, which kind of defeats the aesthetics unless you want that "hard used tactical" look.

If you like it, go for it.

I don’t buy folders with coated or partially coated blades. I don’t care if it’s a Kershaw or a Chaves. Coating rates a full stop. See also: serrations.

I don’t mind coating on carbon steel fixed blades, but I no longer own any.

doesnt matter, buy what you like .
coating will protect blade from rust , and it will wear out with time ,
I like it on tool steel so I dont have to deal with patina , some people like patina .
