I was checking the "NEW" site, does anyone know if the "SATIN" finish has a coating? If not is it a bead blasted type of finish.

Yeah,

There is a coating. I'm pretty sure it says somewhere on the website that they are hard chromed.

Welcome zx6

There is a small error on the new site with regard to finishes and a correction has been sent off to the web guy.

In the FAQ section, there is a comment under the "What is the difference between the plain finish and the black finish?" section.

The plain finish is the non - treated, stainless steel.

This is incorrect and will be changed in short order.

If you'll look up a little further under "I've noticed some rust spots on my bead-blasted blade. Is this normal?" you'll see the following information which is correct.

We no longer offer the bead blasted surface as a finish on the blades. All the blades that have the silver or gray finish are now Hard Chrome coated. This is an extremely durable finish and provides a very good rust prevention coating. All blades that are not Black-T coated are Hard Chromed.

Hope that helps

John

Is the hard chrome finish starting with knives marked 2001?

I think the hard chroming started in early 2000, right after they stopped using CN. Hard chroming is very durable, and my favorite "user" finish, second only to "stonewashed"
Now I'd love to see a stonewashed SOCFK!
cheers,
Derek
