I would like to know which blade coating(bt2 black teflon or boron carbide) you like better and why, also which coating last longer.

Titanium carbonitride - I have a couple of field/hard use knives with this coating. Holds up great when digging, swimming in salt water and exposed to other fluids (blood and such). It's not a coating in the sense it can peel or flake off. It's more like part of the knife, and gets a nice sheen with use.

Well, im "my" opinion the Benchmade coating doesn't suck. I always had good performance and lasting out of it. The goal was not to have the blade stay black, rather the protective coating which remains after the black wears off to keep protecting the blade. Now if someone just wants a blade to remain pretty and black, then I'm not sure what is a good alternative :)

However, the crinkle coat that Busse uses is far out performing anything I've used to date. Heard good things about Emerson's coating as well.....

avpshadowman,

The Benchmade coating is called BT2 and is proprietary to Benchmade.

Black T is a coating you find on certain firearms, some custom knives, and Emersons.

I like black T.

I was going to ask this question in a seperate thread, but since we are here I was wondering if anyone could provide me with information on anyone who can apply the black Ti coat to stainless blades.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ditto.

I have a lot of my knives Black "T" coated. Mr. Walter Birdsong is about 2 hours from me. He invented it 25 years ago. He's coated all the FBI's guns, use to do Emerson, and Benchmade.

The coating will show wear, but still doesn't rust. That's the main reason I use it.

While the black coatings make the blades look cool, I don't really care for them. As far as which coating lasts longer, it depends on how you use the knife. The will all show some wear eventually, but the worst coating I've seen is the Teflon coating used on knives like the Gerber AR 3.00, the CRKT M-16(Military & L.E.versions). While the knives are of good quality, the Teflon does not last very long.
