Blade Coatings?

Hello,

I've read a little regarding blade coatings and decided to steer clear of the BT2 coating on my BM 705 due to the fact that I've read that it scratches rather easily. I have read about very good results with Boron Carbide and Tungsten DLC coatings but what about the black Titanium Carbonitride finish on Microtech knives? How do these coatings compare? (ie. Is BC better than the TC of the MT knives). I'm not opposed to satin finish but I really like the looks of a black blade but not at the expense of scrathing it up easily.

Thanks for any info,

Drivie

DLC has been considered to be the best kind of protective / abrasive coating for industrial purposes for quite a while... but recently my eyes get caught by a new process so called DIARC. For details pls refer to http://www.diarc.fi

Thanks for the info Jin,

I'm actually looking for anyone who can tell me how the Titanium Carbonitride black finish on the MT knives compares to BT2? Specifically, is it pretty resistant to scratches or not? I'm thinking about getting a mini socom and I don't want to have the black coating on the blade all scratched off within a short period of time. Any assistance or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Drivie

The Ti-Carbonitride coating is far more durable than the BT2. I like the looks of fresh BT2 but it scratches extremely easily.
