Hi everyone,

I’m working on a small office paper shredder designed to handle 7 A4 sheets at a time for an academic project. I have a few questions about my design:

  1. The cutting edges on my blade design are curved (R1.01 mm)—is this too small? (Attaching an image for reference. The blade thickness is 6mm, Material: Mild Steel with heat treatment).
  2. Is a 500 RPM, 0.7 Nm torque rating and (around 40W motor) be sufficient for this operation? (I understand the info is incomplete but I want to have a general idea).
Appreciate any insights—thanks!

P.s., Please let me know if there is a more specific Forum where I can post this.

Welcome Muhammed.

This is a knife making site for knives with blades. You really need a mechanical engineering site. I'm moving this to the general knife discussion site where someone might see it and give you a suggestion for a website where it should be asked.
Good luck with your project.

BTW, mild steel won't work. You will want a high-speed tool steel.
