Blade designs question (history of)

The problem is nobody was writing books about that sort of thing early in the Bronze Age, or if they were the books have been lost.

I think Cougar is off a few millenia. I think most of these shapes were first excecuted in flint and obsidian. While loveless may have popularized the custom drop point, he did not originate it or the semi-skinner. Prior to the 20th century blacksmiths would crank out specialized knife designs for every purpose for any customer. I've got one of those 1904 Sears Catalog reprints and you can find any blade shape that you can think of on a pocket knife.
