Blade detent and retention

I've noticed that I can open my Sebenza much easier than I was able to before. In fact if I give it a good hard shake the knife comes open. Is this normal? I dont think its wear that caused this since I havent carried it much since I got it and I've been edcing other knives for the past two months. I just remember the opening to be pretty stiff when I tried to open it before and now it just kind of swings open and the blade retention seems weak. Maybe my thumb got much stronger these past two months or something :D.

I don't think I've experienced anything close to that on a CRK, you might want to take it apart, clean it, and then if it's still like that, send it in.

Wen was the knife made? Newer models have a crap vent through the entire knife rather then a ball detent in the blade, so that pocket lint does not affect the retention. Pocket lint is an evil thing to the best of knives.

I just tried shaking my small Insingo open, and it does it (it took a few hard shakes). It's five months old with about 60-70% lockup, so I'd call it very comparable to yours.

I'm not sure if it's normal, but you're not alone.

It was made in June 2010. So does that mean weaker blade retention? I mean it really doesnt bother me and the knife doesnt open in my pocket but it really is wierd that in the beginning it actually hurt my thumb to open the knife and now its nowhere near like that with minimal use.

Thanks for sharing it does make me feel better :p. Maybe its just the newer models that do this.

It will have the never ball detent. Remember that the ceramic ball is harder then the steel, so if you have cycled it a few hundred times will smooth out the edge of the hole. If it flops open without much effort the contact CRK.
