Blade detent on new military

I just got a new military and it is very hard to open. I was wondering if it's just because it's new I know it suppose to be a little tight but damn I have to force it open. It's almost like it's grinding on the g10 the blade is also way off center when closed. Will it break in or should I send it in to spyderco??? Other than that I love the knife it feels great in the hand great!! Any advise??

Did you purchase the knife from an authorized dealer? Or ebay?

My Millies all have centered blades.

If you're handy with tools take it apart and inspect it. Sometimes all it needs is a slight adjustment.

If you are unsure, send it back, they will fix it up.

Hmm...ya you may have to send it back. Spyderco is really good about quality controls. They usually wouldn't sell a knife like that. Before you send it off, i'd try to loosen the pivot screw a bit. This may make it easier to open as well as center the blade.

Thanks forum peeps. I had a military back in the day before I got all crazy about blades and it was smooth as butter. It didn't make it through my deployment to Iraq back in the day but was a great knife. I guess this one is about to take a trip to golden.

based upon no other information than the fact that you're even asking the question, i'd suggest that you just send it in to spyderco rather than trying to do the work yourself.

that said, if you DO decide to try to adjust it yourself, make sure you have a proper set of torx bits (those screw heads may look like hex-heads but they're really not).

There's something wrong with that knife. No way should it be that hard to open. Send it back.

I say send it in... But if you, and they say there is nothing wrong with it, or you decide to fix it yourself, shoot me an email or send it to me. I can give you some tips, or fix it for you. Ive fixed prob ten Millies that I thought were way to hard to open.

Instead of sending it back I broke it down and messed with it and tweeked it a little bit and it is smooth as butter now. The blade is still a little off center but it's way better. I forgot how much I loved my old mil ! Can't wait for the new ti one to come out anyone know a date yet???
