I would be greatly interested if anyone has any advice for me here... lookin at the NARK and Badger Attack CG. If you have either one, or both, send your feedback this way please. Thank you.

I have a BATAC and for me it's perfect hiking blade. Not too heavy to carry it all day long, but big enough to be helpfull in whatever you do in the forest during a hike. It cuts well, and it's big enough even for light chopping. IMHO BATAC is one of the best looking Busses and great all-around blade.
I never had a NARK, but to me this blade is more self defense oriented - also good looking knife, but BATAC looks better and looks more versatile. Batoning with NARK would'nt be easy due to band-braker on top.
So it all depends on what you're going to use the knife for.

Thank you. I was looking for something as for protection, but it couldn't hurt if I could use it when I go camping... so maybe I'll lean towards the BATAC then... thank you for your input.

I have the BATAC and would agree with tree herder, it is a better all around knife. More versatile and great to have with you whenever. Here's a pic to whet your appetite. Not my photo or knife.

Protection: NARK. (Or most of the 3-series handled knives. Badger Attack 3, Public Defender. Buffalo Soldier. Groove Master.)

Camping: BATAC. Beefier blade.

BATAC. It is a great general use knife. As far as protection, it really depends on style of use. I employ Apache Knife Fighting technique as taught by Robert Redfeather of Ghostdog, and I feel the TAC style handle is the best fit with my chosen form. The only knife I personally would choose over the BATAC or SJTAC for defense/offense is the ST Ripper.

I have to say, I think the Badger Attack is just about perfect for an all around knife. It's small enough to be useable for hunting (don't know that I'd try caping with it though) yet big enough for most general work. Definitely tough enough for anything.

I had a CGBATAC without mags. I found it too small in the hand, I traded it. I got an HRLM to take its place. For protection? Get yourself a 12oz. can of Bear spray, or a gun.;)

My BATAC has never let me down... either camping or in the field during manuvers. Pretty much is the perfect size!

BATAC, without a doubt.
The Public Defender is my fav "special duty" Busse.

Thanks to all who have replied, greatly appreciated... Does anyone out there own an ARK or NARK... or has everyone in my position chosen the Badgers? haha... if there is anyone out there, I would also like to hear from you. Thanks again.

So it all depends on what you're going to use the knife for.

do NOT get the nark for self defense, unless it's attributes are exactly what your looking for. as far as I'm concerned anything made for fighting needs to cut well (meaning through 2 layers of canvas and padding), and cannot snag on clothing. the nark does neither, unless you modify it way outside of it's standard geometry.

the standard nark is one of the heaviest tank like knives I've ever handled from busse, nearly as bad of geometry as the pub defender.. the edge is thick, and the tip is thicker - it's a 1/2 grind so you go from 3/16" to edge REALLY fast, meaning you spread your cutting media apart fast as well.

Think of the nark as a batac but with a thicker tip, thicker edge, more obtuse main grind, and a double edge that makes it difficult to use without thinking about what your doing, a serrated second edge no less. double edged knives (like axes) require thought, placement, and skill to use safely. IF you want a tankier batac and the second edge, then the nark is fantastic. if you want anything else knife related, I would go with something else.

i don't know about the presentation narks though... I recall them being something
like 1/8" which would make better for general cutting, but I don't know how the
cutting edge thickness is handled on them. I can make a 1/16" knife have poor
cutting performance just by keeping the edge thick, so spine thickness is no
gaurentee of performance.

you can see what I'm talking about with the 1/2 grind, it goes from 3/16" thick to the
tip in about a half an inch. that's a very thick triangle to push into something
(cardboard, fabric, wood, anything), especially since there's a lot of metal right
behind the cutting edge. and it's flat ground.

for protection/general use, I'm a fan of the basic 5. but to be honest, I wouldn't
choose any of the busse line, past or present for use as a defense or fighting knife.
I'd choose a cold steel finn wolf over the batac in a fight.
